OUR MOVEMENT
Empowering the Community Since 2011
Formerly known as the Intersex & Genderqueer Recognition Project (IGRP), the Nonbinary & Intersex Recognition Project (NIRP) works to shift our culture and political system to recognize and celebrate nonbinary and intersex people across the US. We focus on policy efforts for third gender options (X) on state IDs and birth certificates, and support banning unnecessary medical procedures on intersex youth.
OUR FOCUS
In order to make the greatest impact and achieve our vision of a more gender-ful world, NIRP has identified three key areas to focus our efforts: Education, Research, and Policy. By addressing each of these areas, we are able to create a world that better understands people beyond the binary and embraces social and legal recognition.
EDUCATION
We provide educational training, materials, and supportive services to political agencies, healthcare providers, schools, and more.
RESEARCH
Through qualitative and quantitative research methods, we are able to provide necessary data to support the need for legal recognition.
POLICY
With supporters in every state across the US, we can call on them for lobby days, action events, and petitions to push for change.
